Q. we are in the process of purchasing a property in spain and are doing it without an English solicitor, are we mad?

A. Dear Loiuse, You would be mad if you purchased without a solicitor,
not particularly an English one. However, in my view your interests
would be better protected as you would have more sound advice if you
hired a Spanish solicitor.
Buying property in Spain is different from buying property in the UK,
and therefore a Spanish lawyer will be familiarised with legal issues
which his UK couterpart may have never heard of.
If the English solicitor is based in Spain and is qualified to practice
in Spain, you are equally protected.
