Can I deduct the cost of the mortgage on the tax declaration?

Q. My boyfriend and I own a home and the mortgage is in both of our names. We each pay half of the mortgage. Can we each claim half of the interest paid in 1999 on our taxes?

A. hat is exactly what you should do: file your property income tax and property wealth tax offsetting the cost of the mortgage in proportion to the share held in the property. In this case, it would be half each.
